Retired Plastic Surgeon Joel Roskind MD to Engage in Teaching

March 6th, 2010

Following a work in plastic surgery that spanned 30 years and stints in Miami and San Diego, plastic surgeon Dr. Joel Roskind has returned to New York, where he ran a clinic for many years, to instruct, advise and pursue his interest in Judaic Spirituality. He will also return to teaching at Boston University Medical School, where he taught previously. He will also consult in the domains of practice management and facilities accreditation.

Dr. Joel Roskind draws on a wealth of experience that includes running a large, successful practice; functioning as an inspector for the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAASF); lecturing at half a dozen medical schools and serving on a three-man plastic surgery team in the U.S. Navy.

Aside from operating a vast, successful plastic surgery office, he also has an active interest in patient safety. Over the course of his vocation, he witnessed an increasing number of surgical processes moving from hospital settings to ambulatory and outpatient facilities. He noticed that while cost effective, this trend also raised a number of patient safety questions. This lead him to form a long and fruitful relationship with the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAASF), finally becoming an inspector for that body and helping establish what is now the gold standard for outpatient facility accreditation. He is well qualified to advise with such facilities to help them reach certification.

And, Dr. Joel Roskind is an veteran teacher. He has previously taught at Boston University, as well as the Nassau University Medical Center, North Shore University Hospital, Cornell Medical School and the University of California, San Diego. He is also the former Voluntary Clinical Assistant Professor or Surgery at the University Of Miami School Of Medicine.

Joel Roskind MD has always trusted that because patients put so much trust in their physicians, doctors have a special obligation to make sure patients get the best possible care, and he has worked throughout his work to make sure they are protected by rigorous safety standards. He trusts to continue to contribute to the medical area in this field as a adviser. In what promises to be a very active retirement, Joel Roskind MD also plans to pursue a personal interest in Judaic spirituality.
