Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co (KKR) was set up by Henry Kravis and his partner George Roberts in 1976 with support from the First Chicago Corporation. Recently, however, in the hope of making the businesses in their portfolio greener, they have rolled out a unique green project that has entirely changed the method by which businesses and environmental agencies carry on their day-to-day business. When Henry Kravis from KKR and the non-profit Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) joined forces last year green issues all of a sudden became a mainstream idea. Pivotal environmental matters like soil contamination and immoderate consumption of water resources are high on their agenda. In order to accomplish these goals, they deploy eco-efficiency; this involves practicable techniques such as increasing the durability of products, recycling programs, and waste reduction. Regardless of the fact that the project was an enormous success, managment simply did not recognize how far-reaching the consequences were until Ken Mehlman, the head of the Green Portfolio Project and global public affairs, finished the review of the first year.

And, with a 2009 business portfolio with an estimated worth of 86 billion dollars, you can be sure this wasn’t a simple see what an enormous feat this is. KKR and the EDF in association with Ken Mehlman have also extended the original Green Portfolio project. The Climate Corps Program founded by the Environmental Defense Fund is a great example of this, it campaigns for financially shrewd, environmentally friendly practices to MBA interns. KKR and Ken Mehlman have made the effort to formulate systems which quantify and manage various resources. Programs like these permit any business organization see how green they are and discover any underlying problems.

So, to summarize, the work of these organizations has made green business techniques not only viable, but commercially desirable, and their radical ideas are setting a new standard in today’s world.
