Steve Schwarzman: the Life of Blackstone Group’s Co-Founder

September 29th, 2009

The story of Steve Schwarzman is one of generosity and a strong work ethic. A year ago Steve was listed as the 53rd most well-off in the United States by Forbes Magazine, but it is his incredible rise to power in the finance sector in addition to his generosity to the arts which set his tale apart from the crowd. Steve’s incredible story has affected many individuals all over the world and in addition he has used his riches to better many people’s lives as well. The Blackstone Group was launched by Stephen A. Schwarzman and Peter Peterson as a business offering up top of the market financial advice and private equity. In the course of time, it has evolved into a world leader in mergers and acquisitions, but Steve hasn’t always managed his own enterprise.

After calling Pennsylvania home for much of his childhood and adolescence, Stephen A. Schwarzman attended high school in the School District of Abington. When he finished high school he decided on an undergraduate program of study at Yale University. Afterwards, he opted to advance his training at the elevated Harvard Business School, gaining his Master’s degree in Business Administration in 1972. Eventually he became part of the corporate team at the illustrious investment bank Lehman Brothers. Before he reached his thirty-second birthday he was already a managing director.

Steve Schwarzman served as an ancillary professor at the highly esteemed Yale School of Management and also offers his patronage to a number of charities, educational programs, and the arts. Moreover, he serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in New York. In addition, he announced on March 11th, 2008 that he was donating $100 million to the New York Public Library to help them put up a new building. Steve is also one of the trustees of the library. Thus, America’s elite look to Steve for inspiration: last year he was cited amongst Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People on the planet in acknowledgement of his many achievements. His quick rise to power in the business and financial communities is nothing short of amazing, not to mention the fact that his generous support of the arts and education has doubtlessly been an encouragement to the business community at large. As far as the financial world goes, Steve has it all. Steve Schwarzman is no doubt an interesting man whose influence can certainly be viewed in the US and the financial community worldwide.
